Senior Students: Setting a Direction and Applying to University

 

Guidance in the Senior Grades

Guidance in the senior grades will focus on preparation for the post-secondary option(s) of the student’s choice. In consultation with a TNS Counselor and parents, this process will begin in the Spring of the grade 11 year and emphasize the increasing responsibility that each student must take in the planning process. You may anticipate individual discussions and student/parent handouts in the following areas:

1. Setting Expectations

2. Determining the Pathway(s) – A Focused Approach                      

  • Colleges, Universities, Apprenticeship, Work – Researching the Options
  • Colleges and Universities – Diploma and Degree Programs
  • Prerequisites and expected performance levels
  • Identifying relevant programs
  • The relevance of the liberal arts
  • Joint and Collaborative programs

3. The Application Process

  • Ontario Colleges and Universities
  • Colleges and Universities Outside Ontario
  • Apprenticeship Programs
  • Submitting the application(s) – applicant and school responsibilities
